How Much CBD Should I Take?

How Much CBD Should I Take?

Given the toxicity of our air, soil, food, the stressors of life, of loss, of being human, research seems to agree that everyone could benefit from cannabinoids.

By supplementing with full-extract, organic CBD oil, abundant in cannabinoids, terpenes, Omega-3 fatty acids, your body has the tools it needs to maintain balance.  As a result, your energy levels feel rhythmic, your moods feel uplifted, and basic processes like digestion, rest, and detoxification will cycle effortlessly-- as they should!-- even when faced with the demands of living.

Adding CBD oil to your health regimen is an exciting way to empower your body on its healing path. As far as illness is concerned, inflammation is always at the root.  Cannabinoids are now being recognized as some of the most potent anti-inflammatory compounds on this planet.  How serendipitous that the hemp plant is overflowing with these healing molecules, ready to rebalance and recharge your entire system.  Pretty incredible, really.

Due to antiquated laws and the lack of government funding invested in cannabis and hemp research, double blind and clinical trials are still desperately needed. Due to this scientific neglect, it is difficult to standardize doses for specific conditions.  However, passionate individuals are gathering usage data, helping others with general usage guidelines, which we will share below.

Unlike most pharmaceutical drugs and even some herbal supplements, there is not a single case report of CBD overdose in the medical literature.  In addition, there is no lethal dose associated with CBD, nor has it ever been labeled as addictive.  No one has died from CBD usage, ever.

Finding your personal therapeutic dosage of CBD requires some tinkering.  Even the most skilled practitioners recognize that finding the right dose takes a bit of patience and a little trial and error.

You may be wondering:

  • How much do I need?

  • How do I know if it’s working?

  • Is it safe to take with this medication I’ve been taking for 17 years?

  • How do I sort through all of the information overload?

Find peace in knowing that here at Hemplogica, we are here to help you find the right dose to help you step into your highest level of vitality.

Every vertebrate has a profoundly different endocannabinoid system. We are all UNIQUE snowflakes. These blueprints all require different amounts of cannabinoids to remain balanced. Everything from genetics, diet & lifestyle, exposure to toxins, and even mindset and emotional well-being all impact how CBD will affect the beautiful and unique YOU.

That being said, when the right dose is achieved, the results are nothing short of inspiring:

Children with treatment resistant epilepsy have reduced their pharmaceuticals and significantly reduce or even completely stop their seizures.  People with debilitating chronic pain find themselves running marathons with ease that once felt impossible.

Cancer patients find themselves eating again, as the nausea gently dissolves and appetite robustly returns.  Even more, studies have demonstrated that CBD can slow down cancer growth and even induce programmed cell death of cancerous cells, providing an effective and safe treatment without the negative side effects associated with traditional chemotherapy.

As every person has a unique blueprint for CBD, it interacts differently within their systems.  For some, they feel it within 15 minutes.  For others, it takes a few weeks to really notice shifts, especially as they figure out what amount feels therapeutic.

One person might feel fabulous taking 2-5mg a day.

A child with epilepsy might need 250 mg a day to thrive.

For general health concerns, we recommend some basic dosing guidelines:

  1. Start small!  See how you feel on even a few milligrams a day.

  2. Slow down and take your time.  Give yourself a few days to adjust to the new dose.

  3. Reflect.  Notice how you’re feeling.  Even keep track in a journal.

  4. Increase your dose if you’re not feeling any effect.

Of course, always reach out to a health professional that understands cannabinoids if you’re needing extra guidance.  Certain medications work synergistically with CBD, while others seem to lose efficacy when used in combination.  Increasing numbers of individuals have successfully used CBD to taper off of everything from epileptic medications to anti-depressants and blood-pressure pills, to opioids and even alcohol consumption.  Again, always check with a medical provider before making any drastic changes.

In terms of more severe inflammatory states, the CBD Oil Review Organization recommends the following:

  • To Increase appetite in cancer patients: 2.5 milligrams of THC with or without 1 mg of CBD for six weeks.

  • To treat chronic pain: 2.5-20 mg CBD by mouth for an average of 25 days

  • To treat epilepsy: 200-300 mg of CBD by mouth daily for up to 4.5 months

  • To treat movement problems associated with Huntington’s disease: 10 mg per kilogram of CBD by mouth daily for six weeks

  • To treat sleep disorders: 40-160 mg CBD by mouth.

  • To treat multiple sclerosis symptoms: Cannabis plant extracts containing 2.5-120 milligrams of a THC-CBD combination by mouth daily for 2-15 weeks.

  • To treat schizophrenia: 40-1,280 mg CBD by mouth daily for up to four weeks

  • To treat glaucoma: a single CBD dose of 20-40 mg under the tongue. Doses greater than 40 mg may actually increase eye pressure.

While these guidelines are extremely helpful in determining your therapeutic dose, remember that you know your body better than anyone else.  So give yourself the time to experiment, to feel things out as your body starts to move towards greater balance and harmony.

The more we help ourselves feel better, the better we ALL feel.
